County vs Bury - Memories to treasure!

THANKS FANS

Bury_fans
Just before the kick-off the players ran out to this fantastic sight

Stockport County would like to thank each and everyone of their magnificent supporters who travelled to Gigg Lane last night.

The Blue & White Army clearly outnumbered the Bury faithful and provided inspirational support throughout the 90 minutes.

And they were rewarded when Liam Dickinson raced clear to beat Kasper Schmeichel with just 5 minutes remaining to clinch three priceless points.

It was a vital victory, of course, but once again the media, both local and national, were talking about the phenomenal County fans.

From the colourful display of Blue & White cards when the team ran out to the quite unbelievable rendition of the anthem, complete with the giant scarf, just after half time the Edgeley faithful proved once again that they really are the best in the business.

Jim Gannon said: "The County fans were absolutely brilliant again.

"To come out to that sort of reception with cards and then the scarves and flags and the singing was non-stop as well.

"I've said before that our fans shouldn't underestimate the influence they have on a game and there's no doubt that their inspirational support helped to tip the scales our way."

Thanks again fans, it was one of those special nights that makes you very, very proud to be a Stockport County supporter.

TWELFTH MAN

TWELFTH MAN: The magnificent Blue & White Army

Fans who bought Friday's edition of True Blue, our award-winning match programme, will have noticed a new player in the squad list.

No, not Tony Dinning, Michael Rose or Gareth Owen but Edgeley's very own Blue & White Army!

The move was instigated by Jim Gannon by way of a big thank-you to the Hatters faithful for the part they played in preserving County's place in the Football League.

Speaking to stockportcounty.com the Hatters chief, said: "Every club will say their supporters are a twelfth man but no club has fans like ours and it's quite appropriate that the Edgeley faithful have been allocated the 'Number 12' shirt.

"There's no doubt you played a huge role in helping us beat the drop and you fans have got a vital role to play this season as we look to push the club in the right direction.

"You have shown great loyalty to Stockport County and the faith you have shown in me has, quite frankly, been incredible.

"I think you know, though, that I take my duties and responsibilities very seriously and I can promise you that all my management team and players will work as hard as they possibly can to bring you the success your fantastic support fully deserves."

Macclesfield vs County - Memories

IT'S OKAY

Blue Army
The Blue & White Army took over Moss Rose last night

Jim Gannon was reasonably pleased with the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round draw made earlier today.

The Hatters reward for their 1-0 victory at Macclesfield was another Cheshire derby, at League 2 rivals Chester City.

Speaking exclusively to stockportcounty.com Gannon said: "It's a tough draw because Chester are a very strong side.

"But it could have been worse and, on the plus side, it's a local derby which means there's not too much travelling for the players or our fantastic supporters."

The Blue & White Army once again turned out in droves at Moss Rose with over 1,000 making the journey - the biggest away following of any team involved in all the first round games either in the north or southern sections.

"Our fans must have outnumbered the Macc fans by two-to-one," Gannon added. "And I was delighted that we gave them such a terrific performance when we were attacking the away end in the second half."

Ruddy Thanks Fans

RUDDY THANKS FANS

John Ruddy

John Ruddy has now returned to Everton but not before thanking the County fans for the tremendous backing he received during his time at Edgeley Park.

The goalkeeper told stockportcounty.com: "I'd like to thank all the County fans for getting right behind me.

"The support was fantastic at every game and it's a credit to the club that they are there week in week out.

"The support is unbelievable here, I couldn't believe it.

"We had 6,500 on Saturday which is the biggest crowd I've played in front of in this division.

"You only have to look at Chester where we had more away fans than the home fans. It's phenomenal.

"They never shut up through the match to be fair to them. It gives the team a real boost as well.

"With these fans you feel like you can go out and win every game.

"It just makes the atmosphere fantastic and the confidence has been sky high because of that."

Boothroyd praises County Fans!

Adie Boothroyd is the latest manager to heap praise on County's magnificent Blue & White Army.

More than 2,500, complete with all their giant flags and banners, travelled to Watford to give the team fantastic vocal support throughout the full 90 minutes.

And the Hornets boss feels with the awesome backing of their '12th Man' County could be in for an exciting end to the season.

Speaking to the national media at Saturday's post-match press conference, he said: "I thought their fans were excellent and if they give Jim that sort of support for the rest of the season they'll have a great chance of making something of their season.

"Every time I looked round at their fans it was like being at the San Siro. I thought they made some great noise and gave their players some great support, all credit to them for travelling in such numbers."

Watford Away, FA3 - Memories!

Robbo thanks Fans

Robbo thinks the Blue & White Army is the best anywhere

The ink had barely dried on his contract following his midweek switch to Torquay United when Mark Robinson saluted the Blue & White Army.

Speaking exclusively to stockportcounty.com the popular defender said: "The fans are absolutely brilliant and you don't get support at many places like you do at County."

Robbo also admitted scoring his first senior goal, in our 3-3 draw at Cheltenham last season was a massive moment but he also revealed that his goal in our penultimate home game against Shrewsbury fulfilled a personal ambition.

"Scoring my first goal at Cheltenham was a massive relief to get that off my shoulders. It was the weekend after the birth of my child so I remember the celebrations as well.

"But it was a big, big thing to score in the Chealde End. It was a massive thing for me to score in front of the Cheadle End because the fans were absolutely brilliant to me.

"The fans are absolutely brilliant at County and I can't thank them enough."

Fans were great - Dicko

Liam Dickinson has praised the magnificent Blue & White Army who packed out the away end at Wrexham last night.

And after we caught up with the striker at the Racecourse Ground he also gave us his thoughts on a couple of other subjects as well.

DICKO ON THE GOAL ...

"It was a great ball in from Griff. I think Tes managed to get a flick on and luckily I was in the right place at the right time to put it in.

"I didn't really know too much about it to be honest. The ball just looped over the keeper who was back pedalling but he couldn't get it."

Elding Hails Blue and White Army

Anthony Elding may have only been at County for a month but he's already a hero to the Blue & White Army - and the feeling's mutual.

Speaking exclusively to stockportcounty.com the former Boston hitman said: "The fans sang my name in my second game and it's an honour.

"I've never played in front of fans like this before. They are fantastic

"When the fans are singing like they do it gives you a lift because they are like a 12th man.

"It gives you bumps on the back of your neck and it makes you want to do well for them and you don't want to disappoint them.

"If we can keep doing what we're doing then I'm sure this club is going places and for me to be part of something like this is special."

Gleeson

By this time the Blue & White Army's victory anthems were ringing around the old stadium but there was still time for one very, very special moment.

'One Stephen Gleeson, There's Only One Stephen Gleeson, began to echo out of the packed away end.

And, on the final whistle the young Irishman went straight over to the magnificent travelling fans to show his appreciation.

The 18-year-old was moved to tears by the ovation, which he later admitted, would remain with him for the rest of his life.

Stephen Gleeson has revealed he will be "a County fan for life" after making an emotional farewell to the club after the game at Hereford on Saturday.

Gleeson told stockportcounty.com: "The County fans are great. Since the day I came here they've been great to me

"To score twice at the Cheadle End was brilliant, something I'll never forget and I'll be a County fan for life now.

"I wasn't expecting that kind of send off to be honest and it's something that I'll never forget.

"I've got some terrific experience here and playing in the FA Cup with County was unbelievable.

"I think County can definitely get into the top three because they can win most of their home games from now until the end of the season.

"We've got a good run going away from home as well with us picking up quite a lot of points."

Hereford Fan View

Stockport were excellent against us yesterday and thoroughly deserved to win. The vocal support from your 513 fans was fantastic right through the game. Walsall brought double that but never made the noise that your fans made. Taylor is a good player in midfield, however you get the impression that if he stopped admiring his passes he would be even better - that's what he needs to learn. Make the pass and get involved again. I was talking to a few stockport fans in the exchange before the match and i did say to them that you would win 2-0. At least we beat them at pool 2-0! Well done. You'll definitely be in the play offs, will you go up in the lottery?

Well deserved result for County aided by superb support, probably the noisiest we've had all season & as far as i'm aware a credit to your club.
Hope that makes amends for our smash & grab on day 1 of the season.
Best of luck for the rest of the season & probably the play offs.

your supporters were superb and the loudest we've had at our place so far, louder than Walsall and Bristol Roverswho brought more than you so well done.

Good luck for the rest of the season, hope you make the top three, from the teams i've seen so far you should do it.

Daz in Hatters Tribute

DAZ IN HATTERS TRIBUTE

Daz Sampson
The lads loved Daz's song!

County fans in tomorrow's expected bumper attendance against Hartlepool United will hear the first rendition of 'Jim Gannon's Army Goes Marching On' by Daz Sampson and the Cheadle End.

The local singer, who has been talking to the club about releasing a County song since the return of Jim Gannon last year, used the Hatters history making nine wins with nine clean sheets as the inspiration for his lyrics.

And County fan Daz is now hoping the song, scheduled to be released on April 23rd, makes the charts.

He said: "I am a man on a mission to get the song in the charts and put Stockport County even more firmly on the map."

And those views were echoed by Jimbo. "It's a good song and it's given us all a buzz to think people are singing about us," he said.

"It's also another sign of how much the success of the current team has caught the public's imagination, I hope it's a big hit!"

Here's Daz's tribute to the History Makers - make sure you sing along on Saturday!

Jim Gannon's army go marching on
We are the County this is our song
We are the pride of Edgeley
So if you are a County fan come on a sing with me

Now this is a song about a team
The greatest one you've ever seen
The boys in Blue they do us proud
The Cheadle End keep singing loud
In Edgeley they hear the roar
Every time the County score
Nine in a row what a story
County boys are full of glory

Jim Gannon's army go marching on
We are the County this is our song
We are the pride of Edgeley
So if you are a County fan come on a sing with me

We set the record now it's done
For winning nine games on the run
We thank the boys and Wayne Hennessey
Cos we're the famous County
And we come from Edgeley

Oh Stockport County we adore
You are the Scarf My Father Wore
So lead us onto victory
And if you are a County fan
Come on and sing with me

We set the record now it's done
For winning nine games on the run
We thank the boys and Wayne Hennessey
Cos we're the famous County
And we come from Edgeley

And now we're thinking of days gone by
Through relegation we never died
Cos all we want is to lift a cup
And now your gunna believe us
And now your gunna believe us
And now your gunna believe us
Cos the County's going up

Danny Bergara

THANKS FANS

Stockport County would like to offer sincere thanks to all their supporters who turned Danny Bergara Day into a memorable Edgeley Park experience.

A huge round of applause greeted the club's staff when they lined up in front of the Main Stand at 2.50pm.

Then you could hear a pin drop in the stands when Frank Sinatra's My Way, one of Danny's favourite songs, was played over the tannoy.

That all changed, though, at the end of the record as Danny Bergara's Blue & White Army echoed around the ground.

Behind Dave and Jim came Chairman Norman Beverley and Managing Director Mark Maguire who accompanied two of Danny's Grandsons, Daniel, 8, and James, 5.

Both boys were wearing Uruguay shirts.

Once the wreath had been laid in the Cheadle End goalmouth the referee's whistle signalled the second, thunderous rendition of Danny Bergara's Blue & White Army that, just like Wembley in 1993, went on, and on, and on.

The club would also like to thank all the Cardiff City fans who showed total respect of the occasion, even joining in the singing and clapping.

Thanks again, though, to the Blue & White Army - you were magnificent.
