Memory Lane..

So, we all have those 'special' memories, things we've done, seen and heard about! Well, I decided that it was time to make a page on it, named 'Memory lane' and will add things that i've done in the past few years i've been watching Stockport County.

See below for the memories!!!

A Bumpy Ride

Overview on the 2006-2007 Season...

So, this season has been full of ups and downs, from winning 1-0 at Macc on a Tuesday night, chanting 'we'll be back to send you down', to loosing 2-0 to Macc on a warm Saturday.

As I said a number of times, 'It only feels like the season started yesterday', which it does! It feels like walking down Hardcastle road to EP on a warm sunny Saturday in August.

Start of the season

Hereford Home - 2006 - First Home Game

So, it was a warm, hot sunny Saturday! I was wearing my brand new County shirt, for the first time. It was our first league game since May, and to be honest, I didn't know what to expect, seeing as our last League game, we drew 0-0 with the champions of League 2, Carlisle, in a bid to stay up. I said i'd be happy with a mid-table finish.

So, Hereford was the first home game, and we lost, 2-0. All I can remember that day, is geting booked on for the Walsall and Mansfield coaches.

Walsall Away - 2006 - First Away Game

So, it was the first away game of the season, and i'd found out that I could have it off, to go down to Walsall. So, I did.. (I booked off every Tuesday night game off for the reason I could get to every game).
So, I was off today, I decided not to be a bum and sit in bed all day, but to go and meet a few mates and have a kick-about, for the first time in ages! So, we went to the field in Stockport, and had a kick about for a few hours, before setting off to EP to get the coach.
Whilst walking up the road to EP, Jordi thought it would be 'cool' to stick thumbs up to passers by, and 'fingers' up to Man U/City fans!

So, we got to EP! and got the coach down, great re-union again, then went down to Walsall.
When we were driving down there, we saw a minibus of complete and utter idiots, Jordi quoted them as 'Chavs'. Was funny
We got to The Bescott, and a 'solid' southern Lad, starts singing, in his southern accent 'WALSALL TILL I DIEE' To which Jordi responds, 'YOU WHAT MATE'. And we just carry on walking to Mcdonalds.. On the way back, we pass the guy again, and he starts chanting 'abuse' at us, we chant it back, and he shuts up.. lovely..

We get into the ground, and watch the game, where during the first half, I got bagged, thanks Adele..!! Oh well....!!
Lost the game 2-0, but, eh well!!!!!

Mansfield,

Leyton, Leyton Orient!!

So, it was Saturday 19th November, 2005, a nice normal day.
With our last outing a lovely 6-0 mauling to Carlisle, and only winning 3 games, I had lost all faith since i'd started going, but decided to go anyway (This was only my 5th away game i'd been to, so) and after a lot of convincing my mum i'll be safe.

So, I did my usual thing for County, walk to Romiley, meet Rob, get the bus into Stockport and walk to Edgeley, have a kickabout and then get the coach.
So, the coach arrived and I got comfy, in a seat with Rob and a lot of people I didn't know, (Who I do now) and had a good laugh with them (That definatly made me go to every away game last year, just the coach)

So, the coach set off, on time, as usual and we drove down, to Leyton, with A3 paper and pens, writing 'nice' things to the people who we pass.

We got to the services and had a long stop, as we were early, went inside, Rob went to the Cash Machine and saw the fee was 4quid to use it, he thought again straight after.

We then went to the playground, (Like you do), which was foggy and covered in some 'thing' which I'm unsure of and had a wander around there, where Jim had a good 'fall' off the slide, which I don't think he liked, but, was funny to watch.

So, we got back onto the coach, and did the same as we did on the way down, whilst we were told we were ahead of schedule!!!

Until... we hit traffic on the M6 in Milton Keynes. So, waiting for the turning, to try and go the other way around, to find the next best way to go, we were pointing signs to people also waiting. The best one, and my personal favourite, was 'Are you a man or a woman'. I'm still unsure to this day what it was!!!

So, we took the turning off the M6, into a lovely busy roundabout, where everyone was also waiting, so, had another long wait!!!

We got away from the motorway, and carried on down the road, passing cows???? The Milton Keynes Cow parade thing, and drove past a few of those, whilst we were wondering, 'Will we get there on time'.

So, we carried on, and on, and came to a little road, where we were chanting things like 'Put yer foot down for the lads' and stuff like that!

We stopped, at some lights, and looked to the left, where there was a guy walking down the road, so, we got the airhorn out of the packet, and got ready for him to walk past... until, he turned into a house, of all the places he could of lived, he lived there... silly!

We drove a little further, and realised the people of this area are quite deaf, as we found out when we saw this old man, so, airhorn out of sunroof again, and the man turned around, the opposite way to the coach, looked in this park and compeltely blanked the airhorn, so, blew the horn again, and he got his wife... we then gave up.

Carried on down the road, where we arrived at St Albans, which was probably the highlight of missing the game, this was about 3-3.10..

Driving down the road, we saw a market, which was quite full, and we looked to the side, and a whole load of chavs were swearing at us, so, we were chanting 'Northern England' and things like that, and they could actually hear us, we were making a good crowd outside!!!

So, we joined the M25 at about 3.40, and were wondering where we were, I can remember someone saying 'we'll be there in 10' every ten minutes, they were right in the end, but we were on the M25 for a good 30 minutes!

We were getting updated on the scores aswell, so, we knew what was happening.

We left the M25, and then heard that we weren't 'too far' away from the ground, even though we did still stop, twice!! and asked people 'where the ground was'.... I'd rather never have to do that again!

Then! At 4.20, someone spotted the floodlights!!!! So, the driver kept on driving around, and we all went to the front of the coach, and told him to let us off!

I ran, and ran, and some guy shouts 'it's this way' (I can still visualise all this!) and I ran down the kerb, nearly falling, they were high!!

We ran, and the stewards were showing us the way in, (Least we got a free game) and we ran in, looked up, and saw the other fans (We got a good cheer for it!!)

So, we sat down/stood up and probably got the better part of the game, two goals, and the powercut from the floodlights!

So, the game ended 2-2 and I can remember one goal, and the powercut from the game, that's the only thing.

We got back outside, and found a cone (We still had our airhorns) and while I held the cone, Rob had the airhorn in his hand, that was another memory!

So, like I do, in typical fashion, I clap the other fans and say 'See you next season' to them all, mainly the stewards, and I got a response from one guy, which, I wont forget, he goes 'Great support lads, well done, keep it up'.

So, we all got back onto the coach, and looked back at all those memories..

To this day, we still say 'Nothing will ever be as good as Leyton Orient' and, I honestly can say, nothing will be as good as Leyton.

Wrexham Away 2005

So, it was my first ever away game, and I wasn't prepared, I didn't have a camera, or a clue what I was to expect, i'd never done any of this before...

The weeks to planning it were the best, begging my mum, forcing her to let me go, just to try it, and I said I'd only go to the local games!! (Didn't work)

So, I walked to Romiley, to get the bus into Stockport with Rob and Jordi.

We got to Edgeley Park, and I was still unsure, and I had to pinch myself to see if it really was real, my first ever away game, I didn't believe I was there....

The coach set off, and I had made a whole load of new friends, all amazing people (You know who you are) and that convinced me to go more....

When we got to the ground, i'd hoped it'd be the same as Edgeley Park, didn't have a clue what to do or where to go!

I found a programme seller, and remember spending 20 odd minutes moaning at the size of the programme (Seriously though.. Two quid 30 pages).

We got into the turnstilles, and paid, walked under the stand (Not being funny, but under there was shockingly poor!!) and got some food.

We then went to find some decent seats, and realised the ones behind the net at the top had a massive scoreboard in the way, lovely....

We moved to the left a bit and then decided to put up the flag (Ever visit Wrexhams ground, be VERY careful of the back of the stand, with those screws sticking out!!!! VERY Careful!) and then sit in front of it (It was pinned up).

So, we watched the players train, on the pitch, as the nets were at the side, and yet to be put in, I was wondering where and how we played, until they moved them back into place by kick off.

Looking to the left, there was a gang of 'idiots' near us, who were giving us shit, so, we had a bit of banter with them.

So, the game started, and the atmosphere was amazing, the day was great, even though  we lost 3-0, it was a good day out.

Before the end of the game though, the 'idiot' wrexham fans got told off by the coppers, that was a funny moment.

So, the game ended and we walked down the stand to the coach again, and set off home.

So, that day, was one of the many great days I've had with Stockport County, and one I wont forget, for a very long time...

After that, I only missed one game that season, from Wrexham - Torquay away, every other game (So much for the 'I'll only go to local games' to my mum).

Wrexham away, was truely the start of my proper support of Stockport County Fc and have many people to thank for that day, thanks to you all, for that great day!!

Bristol Feb 2007

< 18 quid for a day out there, BARGAIN!

So! Today was Bristol Rovers away, the same team that are playing in some cup (Unsure at the moment) against their greatest rivals, Bristol City last Tuesday and the next Tuesday... Fun..

So, I got up at 8ish, to make sure that I felt alright, and went to Edgeley Park.

I got there at 9.15 ish, and saw Jamie, who I chatted with for a bit, and the other lot came along.

So, we set off, and went the usual route, down the M60 and so on...

So, the day got off to a flier, with Taffy on the coach! Which was fun, and we had a right laugh!!!

We were down the M6, when Taffys mate rang him (From the front of the coach!!) and said there's a pitch inspection at 12... Shocked me, a lot!!

No more about that then, down the M6 and then I rang Bristol at 12.15 ish, to see what's happened, the lady (Who answered all three times I rang) told me that their on the pitch now and asked me to ring back shortly.

In the mean-while, we went to the services, where we then found out, that... the game WAS off.. completely shocked me and everyone else!

So, Irwin decided to give us the choice 'Hereford vs Rochdale! See our good friend, Alfy! Or Straight back home (Just to remind, it was 18 quid for the coach!!).

So, it was a choice, hands up vote... (Also, there were quite a lot of people who I'd never ever seen on the coach before, so, newbies) and the first choice 'Who wants to go to Home?' a mass array of hands from these 'newbies' rose up, and.. Irwin then decided that we're going home, after counting the votes, very unfair, I know people didn't have much/any money, but they could of at LEAST given it a chance... or anything, to get a good amount out of their 18 quid! I know for a fact I would of... But oh no, the 'loyal' ones on the coach, the people who are there week in, week out don't get any say in it.. how fair..

So, up the m6 again, and how about Walsall vs Barnet! Nice little game (Good little scoreline too) and we had a vote.. no-one decided to vote.. so, it was straight home again.. To be honest, that was the most BORING coach lot i've seen.. ever!!

So, we got back into Stockport at 3pm ... yes, three pm... and I came straight home... so, overall, was a VERY boring day... very very VERY boring.

Let's hope the replay I can get to!
